The Chancellor published the government's Autumn Statement today and the LEP Network Chair has responded to that statement as below.

LEP Network Chair Mark Bretton responds to Autumn Statement

In response to the Autumn Statement LEP Network Chair, Mark Bretton, said:

“While the continued drive for devolution, with four new devolution deals and an intention to expand Level 2 deals to eligible councils across England, is  a welcome move and should put even more local people and local business at the heart of their communities – I cannot stress enough how vital it is that local business leaders continue to play a key role in helping invest in and develop the communities that directly depend on them.

"LEP Growth Hubs have also been working for years to help local businesses, and it’s very welcoming to see that our continued push for funding of this critical business support channel is recognised, with a commitment from the Chancellor to fund Growth Hubs in 2024-25, to deliver the local business advice and support that’s helped over 1.6m business in the last year - It is business that will help the country grow out of the continued economic challenges and, whilst the many measures announced today are welcome, every devolution deal must have at its heart a formal commitment to the involvement of the engine that only business can provide.”
